If you've been hearing about the falsified rumor,
unixronin made an interesting post about what happens when Betelgeuse goes nova--as it will someday, even if it's not soon.
hat_of_nikitich drew a mortician under the dominance of a sentient octopus.
rydra_wong wrote a thoughtful essay of what rock climbing means to her, like chess for your body, or a crossword puzzle you dance. If you're a rock climber, be sure to check out the
disobey_gravity community.
neverspent teaches us how to taste honeysuckles.
shrii writes a touching account of her first salaam.
And if you like Asian art,
oona is sharing her favorites over at
hanaogi.

A portrait by
pearleyed
Nov. 28th, 2009 05:28 pmThis portrait of Liv Tyler by
pearleyed caught my eye because of its meticulous portrayal of long, loose hair. If you look around her journal, you can find other instances of her art, including a video of the making of a drawing!
Going to the movies with
pulchritude
Nov. 25th, 2009 03:18 pmAre you a lover of independent films or just films in general? Then you might like to subscribe to
pulchritude, who posts a variety of efficiently concise movie reviews (and book reviews, too) with their accompanying promotional image.
pulchritude is Han Chinese by birth and upbringing, but has spent a lot of time in the US as well and is currently studying for a master's in gender studies in the UK.
Wallabies, bears, and porcupines, oh my!
Nov. 23rd, 2009 04:12 pmTo kick off this community,
frith's journal is full of wonderful pictures of zoo animals.
Did you know that bears like pumpkins? Squirrels do, too! Lemurs, on the other hand, like dandelions.
Porcupines can end up with adorable babies, despite contraceptives, and they grow up fast.
You can also find baby llamas as well as wallabies and yaks.
Updates are sporadic, but new readers are welcome!

Submissions
Nov. 22nd, 2009 01:59 pmIf you have something you want to submit to
dreamlight, comment here! We're looking for:
* Interesting posts.
* Interesting sets of posts, such as a particular tag on a journal.
* Interesting journals, especially themed ones.
* Interesting communities, especially active ones. At the very least, they need to have active admins.
It's okay if content is cross posted or mirrored, as long as commenting is available on Dreamwidth.
dreamlight asks for permission. If you're submitting something of your own, I'll assume you've given permission. If it's somebody else's, I'll be asking for permission, unless you've already asked and gotten a positive response that I can see.
Note that
dreamlight is for non-fandom content--if you know of a similar fandom-focused promotion community, let me know and I'll put it here!
